Abstract

This report comprises the training path developed in the Nurse´s Masters on Psychiatric and Mental Health, in which are described and analysed the scientific, technical, relational and communicational learning, acquired during the traineeship. In this document the individual traineeship aims defined in the individual traineeship project are questioned, followed by the presentation of the traineeship areas and the critical and reflective description of the activities developed to achieve the traineeship goals and obtain the skills of a Nurse specialist in Mental and Psychiatric Health approved by the Nurse´s Order. In the traineeship Unit I, designed by Promotion, Diagnostic and Prevention of Lifestyles, carried out in Algarve´s Unidade de Desabituação, we developed skills in the care of patients with problems of dependence on psychoactive substances, carried out interviews on Nursing and promoted the motivational intervention as also the change of behaviour to encounter healthy lifestyles. In the second unit of the traineeship, which took place in the Psychiatric Hospitalization Service of Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, E.P.E.- Portimão, we acquired skills in greeting the patients and their families, residence visits, group works known as “Free draws” and “Comments on Proverbs”, relaxation techniques, specially the “Progressive relaxation of Jacobson”, and the “Abdominal Respiration” technique integrated in the “Relaxar é Viver” project. The third unit of the traineeship, which took place in Consulta Externa of Children Psychiatry, in Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, E.P.E. – Faro, allowed us to deepen theoretical and practical knowledge on nursing consultations, to make suggestions and forward the patients to structures and resources available in the community, as well as to elaborate and implement the “Dinâmicas Musicais na Adolescência” project. The work experience acquired during this three traineeship units allowed the personal and professional growing, in what concerns to be in the know and the know-how of Nursing in the Mental and Psychiatric Health area.
