This study investigates the relationship between stress, empathy and social decision making. Stress is the body's natural response to emotional challenges, which can negatively affect physical and mental health, as well as cognitive functioning, particularly when making social decisions. The research is based on the hypothesis that high levels of empathy, measured by a self-report instrument, are associated with more empathetic response patterns in social contexts, while acute stress induced by specific tasks can reduce this capacity. The sample consisted of 28 participants, psychology students, divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group faced a stress-inducing task, while the control group performed a neutral task. Participant responses were assessed in terms of empathy and social decision-making, using vignettes with negative emotional content This study contributes to the understanding of the dynamics between stress, empathy and social decision-making, offering crucial insights for promoting more collaborative and resilient environments, with benefits for mental health and effectiveness in interpersonal relationships.
