Uma nova era de produção televisiva

: a RTP num ambiente de convergência digital

Abstract

The television industry is currently under a digital revolution. The convergence between television and the internet is a reality in our everyday lives, since the online world allowsus to acquire numerous possibilities. Broadcasting is transmitted from different platforms, both online and not yet, it is suffering a big change within this area. It has never been soeasy to communicate from a distance, thanks to the arise of different methods of communication that respond to our necessity as a society to be able to reach people from the side of the world. The goal of this thesis and research is to reflect on the future of television in a world that is becoming increasingly more online-based, through interviews and using online platforms, website and Instagram of a specific television channel entitled Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), in order to demonstrate how this company uses new technologies to optimize their contents. RTP’s official website and their Instagram are not seen as a new way for their viewers to watch television yet. In other hand, they do offer the chance for the viewers to interact with the shows, allowing them to comment, share and send their own digital content through RTP’s social media. With the exception of RTP Play, both the official website of RTP as well as their Instagram are not considered a new way of watching television, although the audience can use these platforms to interact with the shows through comments and shares in real time. These platforms areknown to be a way of visual transmission, whether it’s information or entertainment, taking a feeling of proximity with the viewer as the main purpose, as well as grabbing theattention of a very specific type of new audience that doesn’t have the habit of viewing television, a generation connected to the internet.
