In this Master thesis, our goal was to create the first systematized corpus of Portuguese Sign Language. Classifiers are morphemic structures that can be sometimes confounded with signs, although they are not lexicalized signs. After the creation of the corpus with classifiers produced by deaf people proficient in Portuguese Sign Language and with a precocious sign language acquisition we analyzed through the classifiers. For our methodology we used the ASLAI test (Hoffmeister, 1990) which was adaptated by us and with a designed story telling created by us to produce classifiers in the deaf people spontaneous discourse. Until now, this study was not done in Portugal, and we think it might be usefull to incorporate the few studies that already exist on Portuguese Sign Language grammar.
