Introduction: Absolute isolation is an essential technique in dental procedures that involves the use of a rubber dam to isolate the operative field. This practice offers numerous advantages, such as enhanced visibility, control of oral fluids, and a reduction in the risk of cross-infection. This study examines the use of rubber dam within the context of university clinical care from the patient's perspective. Materials and Methods: The system chosen to assess patient perspectives was a questionnaire conducted on the Google Forms platform, distributed during consultations at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa university clinic. Results: The sample in this study consisted of 103 individuals. The results indicated that the majority positively evaluated the explanation provided by healthcare professionals regarding the procedure. Many patients expressed a favourable disposition towards accepting the use of rubber dam in future treatments, although some reported discomfort associated with its use, highlighting the perception of safety and quality afforded by this technique. Conclusions: Effective communication between the dental practitioner and the patient is crucial for the acceptance of absolute isolation. The study concludes that, despite some disadvantages, absolute isolation is widely appreciated by patients due to its benefits in enhancing the quality and safety of dental treatment.
