This Master Thesis presents an analysis that aims to understand the changes of media practices and meanings at the time of changes in emotional states of young people. To do this, we chose a qualitative approach of exploratory nature by applying individual, in-depth and semi directive interviews. From the analysis and interpretation of practices and meanings that the media have on the interviewees’ lives in different contexts, it is concluded that there is a change in the way young people relate themselves (use and consume) with the media when there is a change in their emotional states. In emotional state of well-being, changes in practices occur mainly by entertainment and leisure needs and/or by the need to be closer to people; in depressive emotional state the media practices are highlighted by the need of distraction/escape and by the need of distancing others. It was also concluded that the same medium encloses itself a plurality of meanings for different individuals in similar emotional states, but also to the same individual in different emotional states.
