Abstract

Vaccination in School Health, considering the National School Health Program, focuses on collaborating in verifying the vaccination status of students, namely "Collaborating in the compliance of the 2nd dose of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella Vaccine (MMRV2) at the end of the 2nd year of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education." (DGS, 2015, p. 46). This community intervention project was carried out in a Community Care Unit and aimed to contribute to the compliance of MMRV2 in students of the 2nd year of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, in two school clusters of the municipality. The project was based on the Health Planning Methodology according to Imperatori & Giraldes (1982) and Tavares (1990) and supported by Betty Neuman's Health Systems Model (1995). The situation diagnosis was carried out through consensus research among experts, using the Focus Group technique, and allowed to understand that it was pertinent to respond to what was advocated by the National School Health Program in the area of vaccination in school health, aligned with what was defined in the Activity Report and School Health Action Plan (ACeS, 2023), being in tune with the objectives of the National Health Plan 2021-2030 in keeping health problems currently under control and for this purpose maintaining a high level of vaccination coverage (DGS, 2022, p. 52) and as mentioned by the World Health Organization in the Immunization Agenda 2021-2030 where it is clarified that due to the fact that measles is highly contagious, its presence serves as an indicator of inadequate coverage and gaps in the health system. High coverage with the measles vaccine is an indicator of a strong immunization program, which can signal a solid foundation for primary health care. The second dose of the measles vaccine is an opportunity to focus on strengthening immunization programs to reach children beyond the first year of life and to expand immunization services throughout life, hence its importance in the school health context (WHO, 2020, p. 7). All phases of this methodology were followed, supporting the project on the theoretical framework. The project evaluation concluded that there was a contribution to the compliance of MMRV2 in the identified target population. The completion of this project, concurrently with the activities developed throughout the final internship, contributed to the development of master's competencies in Nursing, with specialization in Community Nursing: Community Health Nursing and Public Health.
