Organizations from all economy quadrants have been investing on expanding their business internationally and wide-spread across the globe, focusing on the rise the importance of tertiary services on the whole economic scenario. In hand with these changes, the way employees behave within companies has suffered major shifts. Companies are starting to recognize that employees’ motivation has a considerable impact in the company’s success. Recent studies show that a good organizational communication is the key for success and can also impact on employees’ motivation. The main goal of this dissertation is to establish a positive correlation between companies’ internal communication and employees’ motivation. The empirical research underlying this paper was supported by an explanatory, quantitative, transversal and non-experimental study. A sample of 230 single individuals belonging to different organizations from de third sector of economic activity from Viseu was used. A descriptive analysis helped a better understanding of the sample and of the results of communication and motivation scale. With a factorial analysis we could establish four main communication factors: communication and interpersonal relationships, information and organizational language, organizational relationships, feedback and individual involvement with the organization; and four major motivational factors: motivations management, performance and evaluation, organizational commitment and self-realization and power. All the compiled data and the formulated hypothesis allowed to acknowledge that gender has an influence in organizational relationships and self-realization and power; marital status impacts on communication and interpersonal relationships; literacy has an impact on feedback and individual involvement with the organization and organizational relationships. Additionally, the results also allow to partially prove the hypothesis that internal organizational communication has a positive correlation with employees’ motivation. We can relate motivational factors to communication factors such as: communication and interpersonal relationships with motivational management, organizational commitment and self-realization and power; information and organizational language and organizational relationships with motivation management, performance and evaluation and organizational commitment; feedback and individual involvement with the organization with motivational management and performance and evaluation. It was concluded, both theoretically and empirically, that the quality of internal organizational communication can be related to the motivation of employees.
