Abstract

The present study is the result of the collaboration of some women residing in the district of Braga victims of conjugal violence. Domestic violence causes negative impact on physical and mental health of women, which hinders their family, social and work performance. Under these assumptions, this research aimed to identify the causes that victimize these women. For the achievement of this study we used a qualitative methodology, and appealed for better support, the Life Stories that allow us to know deeply an event of life, through personal narrative. This study allowed us to conclude that mistreatment is primarily focused on the physical and psychological abuse with emphasis, essentially, for the latter. However, women who are part of our research classified the sexual dimension as an aggression. Was found also that the abuse emerged at the beginning of the conjugal union and tend to worsen over time.
