Abstract

Domestic violence is a major problem today, translated by physical, psychological, sexual and verbal abuse among people, which may belong to different age groups and sexual orientations, with emotional ties in common, with or without cohabitation. This can cover several classifications, and the work developed in this research is marital violence, more specifically, in the homosexual population. Thus, this study aims to understand the reason that the victim of homosexual domestic violence to remain silent, specify the role of social intervening with this population, as well as mapping the existing social policies to address this issue. As reasons for the silence are pointed to guilt, hope, shame, addiction, fear of reprisal / retaliation and punishment of the offender, HIV disease, injustice, not statement of sexual orientation, the safeguard of the relationship with the children, the existence an intergenerational pattern of behavior in the family and the family pressure. Regarding the role of social intervenor, it should be noted that this exerts its action to the victim, the offender, as well as the environmental context that surrounds them, which may be performed as a team and in partnership with other experts in other institutions/ entities to give a good answer to the needs of stakeholders. Finally, with regard to social policies, it is emphasized that these are molded not committed, ie, they exist but lack the technical knowledge, and resources necessary to apply the best networks. For each of these themes, the researcher poses some unanswered questions that will, for a possible doctoral thesis.
