Vivências do cuidar em situação crítica

: um desenvolvimento pessoal até à especialização em enfermagem médico-cirúrgica

Abstract

The present document reflects an analysis and personal reflection regarding the care of a person in critical condition, in which several experiences and learnings will be expounded, reflecting a personal construct in critical care. It thus has the objective of analysing, in a descriptive and justified manner, a pathway of acquisition of specialized skills to care for a person in critical condition, which will culminate in gaining the degree of Master. In order to do so, this document will base itself on the description and analysis of activities performed within the context of an internship in a polyvalent ICU and in a central emergency department of a hospital centre in the Região Norte, which were enriching and facilitated the acquisition and development of general and specific skillsets of a Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, namely in Care for People in Critical Condition. The previously mentioned experiences during the course of the internship not only made the importance of a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing clear within different environments, but also provided for the mobilization and acquisition of new theoretical knowledge, the consolidation of abilities, as well as proficiency in critical reflexion of a practice based on evidence. It thus allowed for a further development of competencies specific to the area of specialization taking into consideration security, quality, and prevention/control of infections principles. The pertinence of the competencies of the Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing will be studied, after which the characterisation of the internship environments will be made as well as of the activities performed in order to achieve the previously set goals. During this internship curiosity to reflect and invest in an integrative literature review arose, so as to advance the knowledge acquired to create a better practice and so the development and analysis of activities within the context of the intership were done with theoretical substantiation and current evidence. The experiences during the internship and the following reflection allowed for a personal growth in approaching a person in critical condition and, consequently, in my own specialised professional practice.
