This report covers the experiences faced in all the internship regarding the Masters in Nursery with specialisation on Nursery Medical-Surgery in the Instituto de Ciências da Saúde, Universidade Católica Portuguesa. The goal of this report is to describe all the knowledge, toughts and reflections acquired, focusing on the main activities and competences developed in the different subjects of the internship: Module I- Emergency Service, Module II- Intensive and Intermediate Care Service and Module III- Pre-Hospital Care. The situations of a critically ill patient requires from the nurse the agility and preparation to think, act and react. Decision-making implies the acquisition of skills that can only be achieved with continuous and advanced training. Caring is sometimes impersonal and not humanized, since care is centered on the biomedical model in order to maintain vital functions by devaluing and often disregarding the patient / family dyad. Assistance to the critical patient and is family is a challenge for nurses where humanistic competence must be combined with the technical and scientific care and also quality of care. The approach to a critically ill patient is uncertain and complex, requires safe and fast response, always following the goals of our profession and integrating the moral, ethic, social and deontological attitudes. The profession growth demands a reflection and a deepest knowledge of pertinent subjects, contributing for a bigger autonomy on the promotion and future developments with the intention to stimulate efficiency and improvement of quality care. The report is organised accordingly to the internship modules, using the knowledge received as a tool to recognise competences such as human, technical and communication as a nurse specialist in medical-surgery and to obtain the master level. The reflection of the common and specific competences of the specialist nurse was productive and stimulating, allowing the awareness of the acquired capacities throughout the academic and professional training process, awakening to the areas that require greater investment in the future, namely the continuous improvement of quality and management Care. The Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing comprises a deep knowledge in the specific domain of the medical-surgical scope, complementing with the skills of the specialist nurse. To this end, we have enumerated the acquired competences that complete the specialist nurse in the Master's degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing.
