Resumo

This article seeks to problematize the central issues of the musealization of houses and artists’ studios through the discussion of Portuguese cases. It addresses experiences that start from different presuppositions, with various museological programs and that have resulted in various morphologies. Related to Portuguese painters and sculptors, the cases selected cover the period from 1930 to 2013 and have different institutional status. An analysis of the representative elements of each project opens the debate on the problems and the specificity of this type of museum. From museum houses and museum studios in the artists’ original workspaces, to those who occupy buildings specially designed to accommodate different types of collections, the situations chosen show options and decisions that shape the project over time. The paper also reflects on the survival of this model of musealization in the times of “post-medium” art.
