Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are one of the most serious problems of diabetes, in which generally the consequence of multiple factors and several chronic, micro and macrovascular complications, including peripheral neuropathy, decreased blood supply and high plantar pressures, among others, pose a risk of amputations, addiction, infection, even death. The treatment of DFUs has the ultimate goal of healing the lesion; however, it is not at all simple. Treatment is a dynamic and complex process that implies the management of several global factors of the patient, up to the implementation of an individualized treatment plan adapted to the needs of the user and its unique characteristics. Local wound care, and in particular the selection of dressing materials, is of fundamental importance. The clinical aspects of the wound-healing mechanism must support themselves, on an appropriate treatment strategy based on the complexity of the wound.
