Resumo

The structuration of the Portuguese Protestantism resulted from a complex process that was dynamized with a substantial consistency mostly since the end of the 19th century There were several leaders that stood out within this pioneer movement, thus actively participating in the construction of religious plurality in Portugal Eduardo Henriques Moreira (1886-1980) distinguishes himself between those leaderships because of the range of his action field and the variety and density of his reflection During the decade of 1930, the trip that he took through all the African territories of Portuguese domination, produced a determinant influence in its vision about the role of Protes-tantism in Portugal and of the evangelical missions in the Portuguese Empire Advocating the notion of a national unity that necessarily covered the colonial territories, the evangelization plan projected by Eduardo Moreira was first of all based in the need to promote education in Portugal and, therefore, in its colonies, where the potential and importance of the evangelical missions acquired a magnitude that was never achieved efectively in the Metropole.
