Impact of moringa oleifera in agronomic sciences: a review

The Moringa plant (Moringa oleifera) is native to India and Africa. It is characterized by growing in tropical and arid climates. It has been extensively studied because it is a potential source of bioactive compounds with applications in agriculture and food additives. The compounds are present in leaves, stems, and roots and today have a wide application in modern agriculture since they have been used successfully in bioremediation for their ability to remove heavy metals, promote the germination of seeds of important crops such as corn and wheat. Also, it has allelopathic properties and in animal nutrition it has been used as feed for cattle due to its high protein content. In addition, the oil that is extracted from its seeds has been used to produce biodiesel since it has a high content of oleic acid, being an ideal substitute for petrodiesel. All this, without considering that it also has medicinal properties. Therefore, Moringa is a viable alternative for its use and application in modern agriculture, bioremediation, and livestock feeding. Likewise, the bioactive compounds that are extracted can be applied in other areas as a food additive (for humans) and in the medical area due to their antioxidant properties.
