Resumo
This study aimed at analyzing the views of parents, students, teachers and vocational counsellors about the parents’ role in the implementation of their children’s career choice when starting high school. Based on the “grounded theory” method, the perspectives of a total of 119 participants (16 parents, 46 students, 34 teachers and 23 career counsellors) were investigated by means of an open question questionnaire. The processes of parental influence as well as the consequences of that influence were identified. The data indicated the need for expanding vocational interventions, taking into consideration the contexts of life and their role in decision making.
