Resumo
The post-Tridentine period was characterized by an increase of female religious vocations, which was materialized by a proliferation of monasteries and convents; the new foundations were more easily adapted to the monastic ways of live defended by Trent and the Coun-ter-Reformation environment. In évora, the options for a religious life multiplied from mid 16th century on, a reality that was becoming evident in the city since the first quarter of the 14th century. It is in this context, that we propose a reflection on theinfluence of the social status of the parents / dotadores and the amount and composition of dowries in the life of évora's cloistered communities where those parents/dotadores chose to put their descendants during the modern period.
