Resumo

Introduction: The best health outcomes, including adherence to treatment and healthy lifestyles, can be achieved when healthcare professionals, in general, and nurses, in particular, focus on the real needs of citizens or patients. In real-world practice, planning and implementing healthcare aimed at the real needs of the citizen or patient is not possible without including the family/caregiver and the community where each person belongs. For the various areas of assistance in the nursing discipline, the advanced training of nurses has always been needed and will continue to need the best evidence as it adds value to nursing curricula. Method: Theoretical-reflective study supported by relevant scientific evidence on the authors’ central concepts and consequent theoretical reflection-based expertise. Results/Conclusions: In modern healthcare systems, healthcare professionals need to be agents of change and continuously integrate and balance the knowledge coming from the best available evidence with the knowledge of the person's values, preferences, and beliefs in a symmetrical partnership. The competence profile of nurses in supporting caregivers will be identified; the best evidence in the advanced training of nurses and the continued value of research in nursing curricula will be highlighted.
