Resumo

During the Cold War, the relationship between Brazil and Portugal, notably through the actions of the integralist Plínio Salgado, had a significant high point with the objective of closer ties between the two countries, especially with regard to the independence process of the African- Asian colonies, a movement that was directly linked to global bipolarization. He saw the communist advance as permanent and almost uncontrollable, an element that he used to justify support for Portugal in the colonial wars, with the intent of creating an anti-communist struggle in the West for the formation of a Christian world. This study aims to analyze Plínio Salgado's political and intellectual actions based on an authoritarian politics in a democratic Brazil. The analysis covers his proposals in defense of Portuguese colonialism, his struggle in support of nationalism and anti-communism, his moralizing criticism of bourgeois values, and especially his irreconcilable conflict between spiritualism and materialism during the Cold War.
