Resumo

Introduction: The association between cervical dysfunction, incorrect postural habits, and the onset of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) has been studied. Dental students frequently report neck pain, most probably associated with bad postures often adopted during their clinical activity. The aim of this study is to evaluate dental students’ posture and its relationship with the presence of TMD. Materials and Methods: The Fonseca Anamnestic Questionnaire and the Neck Disability Index were used for data collection. Photographs were taken for postural evaluation software - SAPO. Results: 62.3% of dental students were diagnosed with TMD and 41.0% have cervical disability. A significant association was observed between cervical disability and the presence of temporomandibular disorders. No statistically significant differences were observed in postural analysis between students with TMD and without TMD. Conclusion: The results of this study emphasize the importance of adopting a correct working posture for dental students to prevent the onset of injuries in the cervical region.
