Resumo
In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the consumption market of cinema
suffered a huge impact. Traditional forms of cinema consumption include local
movie theatres in big cities and independent film festivals.
Because of the lockdown restrictions, movie theatres were closed for long periods, and both the revenue and the number of spectators in these places decreased exponentially, with both open-and-closed theatres. This work discriminates the decrease in revenues and the number of spectators in movie theatres during the pandemic in Portugal using data provided by the Portuguese Instituto de Cinema e Audiovisual.
Film producers and distributors adapted their activity through on-demand video platforms and online video clubs. In this work, we will present and discuss the online video club “Filmes para a União”. “Filmes para a União” was launched by three Portuguese producers: O Som e a Fúria, Terratreme Filmes e Uma Pedra no Sapato, providing films of national production on the digital platform Vimeo, whose rental value was channeled to the Audiovisual Union, arising in a pandemic of covid-19. This work will also analyze the screening methods adopted by the
IndieLisboa, Doclisboa, Curtas Vila do Conde, Queer Lisboa and Queer Porto and Monstra festivals.
