Resumo

Vieira renders a new insight regarding the translation of contemporary Spanish literature into Portuguese, considering cultural and linguistic aspects. The Author contends that in Portugal the memory of the Spanish Civil War and of Franco’s Dictatorship is a “travelling memory” that migrated into Portuguese culture through literature. She uses Brownlie’s concept of transnational memory (2017), understanding it as a memory that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. Translated literature plays a major role in this movement and Vieira analyses the translation of the novel Los girasoles ciegos (Méndez, Anagrama, Barcelona, 2004) into Portuguese as an example of the dynamics of transcultural memory.
